A toddler wakes his mum at 4am to show her what's on the bed

A rural Ohio mom got the surprise of a lifetime when her early morning wake-up call turned into a viral moment shared across social media.

In a now-viral Instagram video posted on March 4, the woman behind the account @morris.family.homestead revealed how her quiet night ended with an unexpected scene in her own bed.

The family lives on a 1.5-acre homestead in rural Ohio, but even that setting did not prepare her for what she discovered right before sunrise.

The video opens with on-screen text explaining the moment everything changed. "When you're awakened at 4 a.m. by your 3-year-old saying 'look at the baby kitty cats!' ... And you sit up to find your cat giving birth in your bed," the layover text reads.

The clip shows the family's cat calmly grooming a litter of tiny kittens -- kittens the mom had no idea were about to be born. The mother cat appears relaxed and settled, despite having chosen one of the most surprising places to give birth.

According to the caption accompanying the video, the situation unfolded quickly. The mom explained that she immediately grabbed a towel and moved the cat to a more appropriate space. The cat was relocated to a bin lined with a towel and placed in a closet, where she went on to deliver three more kittens, bringing the total to five.

The caption also provides important background about the cat's arrival into the family's life. The cat showed up at the homestead a couple of months earlier and was believed to have been dumped.

As temperatures dropped, the family began letting her inside, drawn to her gentle nature. Over time, she became part of the household -- though no one realized she was pregnant.

The mom reassured viewers that the cat will be spayed soon, addressing a common concern raised in comment sections whenever surprise litters appear online.

Cats are pregnant for about 63-65 days, with subtle early signs like nipple changes and increased friendliness, and later signs such as a swollen belly and nesting behavior. Pregnancy has three stages, though early changes can be hard to detect.

Proper care includes veterinary checks, parasite control, and a high-calorie diet to support fetal growth. As birth approaches, cats seek quiet nesting areas and usually deliver kittens within several hours without assistance.

After birth, kittens require warmth, nursing, and monitoring, while the mother continues to need proper nutrition and care to support recovery and milk production.

The video quickly gained traction and has so far received over 745,000 views and 45,500 likes on the platform.
