A foster kitten who was never going back struts like a runway model

I'm a big believer in pets choosing us, not the other way around. Nearly every dog and cat I've ever rescued or adopted happened because our lives intertwined in ways I didn't see coming, and they've made some of the best companions I could've ever asked for.

One foster kitten named Poppy recently got the coveted title of "foster fail" after spending some time with her now-forever family. They didn't see her coming either, and now, this little angel is making her grand entrance like she's Tyra Banks!

Though the kitty's parents swore they weren't keeping another foster -- making them a four-cat household -- this magical thing happened where the stars aligned. Poppy had an adopter ready and waiting, but it fell through. Signs are everywhere if we're paying attention, and I think Poppy somehow manifested this happy ending for herself.

"From shy campground kitten to full-time cuddle bug... Poppy chose us," the caption says, making her the cutest foster cat fail ever. Her resident cat sister, Bambi, thinks she's pretty cool, too. Together, they're going to make the most adorable kitty duo in history.

On February 2, 2026, Poppy joined the family as a foster kitten. Mom wrote this at the time, making it clear that big things were happening -- even if they didn't realize it:

"We are so in love with little Poppy. She's quiet, gentle, and slowly learning how to let go and be a kitten. Watching her confidence grow has been so special."

As with adopting, fostering is one way to help save lives. By taking a pet in need out of the stressful shelter environment and into a loving home, you're the reason shelters can open up critical space to save another.

And, if saving two lives isn't enough, you have a direct impact on whether that pet can find a home based on your observations of their personality, likes, dislikes, and so much more.

Fostering doesn't get enough credit, and we're thrilled when any pet becomes a foster fail like Poppy!
